Here in The States, the name Steve Smith might be more immediately associated with a wide receiver from the Carolina Panthers. But that might change with This Town, the solo disc from the two-time Grammy award winning former Dirty Vegas front man. Smith wears many hats including front man, DJ, producer...but before all else is a songsmith. Even the most floor filling of Dirty Vegas anthems (including the uber-hit "Days Go By") started as well-crafted guitar pop songs, the likes of which are showcased on this disc. I'm particularly digging the tracks "Hit Me Up", a real stomper of the Oasis/Supergrass pub-brawl variety, and "Comedown Queen", a mellow, Beatle-y strummer. Smith's top craftsmanship is abound on practically every track on the tight This Town, which is available now on his own label G.A.S. Records. You can still find Smith behind the decks, however. In fact, if you are in Miami tonight, you can find him spinning @ Club Mokai with some cat named Paul Oakenfold.
